HEALTH TIPS & TRICKS

Our experts come from a wide variety of professions and backgrounds, but we have one thing in common – we all love to have fun and we want to show you that getting the results you want doesn’t have to be hard work - in fact, all that hard work is counter-productive!

Six things you didn't know to avoid after a meal

1. Sleeping immediately

The food will not be able to be digested properly. This can lead to gastric infection in your intestine.

2. Smoking (so we all know we need to avoid this, but it's even worse after eating)

Smoking one cigarette after a meal has the increased cancer risk of smoking ten cigarettes.

3. Loosening your belt

This can cause the intestine to become twisted and blocked.

4. Fruit

This will cause the stomach to be bloated with air. Eat fruit 1-2 hours before or after a meal.

5. Bathing

This will cause an increase of blood flow to the hands, legs and body and a decrease to the amount of blood around the stomach, thus impeding digestion.

6. Walking

Walking will cause the digestive system to be unable to absorb the nutrition from the food you have eaten.

Exercise for free!

Getting started in exercise doesn't have to be expensive. Try this plan for 1 week that won't cost you a cent. But as excited as you are to get to the end, make sure you rest on day 4 to avoid injuring yourself. Also, stretch beforehand and stay hydrated. Happy exercising!

Day 1: 10 toe touches, 30 star jumps

Day 2: 15 toe touches, 35 star jumps

Day 3: 20 toe touches, 40 star jumps

Day 4: Rest day

Day 5: 5 crunches, 45 star jumps

Day 6: 10 crunches, 50 star jumps

Day 7: 15 crunches, 10 lunges......congratulations, you made it!

Why do we have taste buds?

Why do we have taste buds? Why are they different from one person to the next? And why do our tastes change over time? Because they're part of a perfect system! Taste buds don't just tell you what you like to eat; more importantly they tell you what you NEED to eat.

We all have different tastes because our bodies are unique, needing different nutrients. Some people love salads, and these people need greens. Others feel they couldn't live without red meat. These people need more protein than others.

Of course, we can train our body in bad habits, sometimes more easily than we can train it in good ones! If you're on a regular diet of fast food and lollies, then your body's been trained to crave sugar. There's a disengagement between what your body thinks it wants and what it actually needs.

The trick here is to think back to what your favourite healthy foods were as a child. Did you like strawberries? Apples? Carrots? This is what your body is really craving!
